Oscars 2015 Predictions!

Yes, it’s officially awards season, and with the biggest award show just around the corner, I feel it is time to release my predictions list!

Best Picture

  • American Sniper
  • Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) 
  • Boyhood
  • The Grand Budapest Hotel
  • The Imitation Game
  • Selma
  • The Theory of Everything
  • Whiplash

My Prediction: Birdman, however, I feel Boyhood is also a strong competitor.

I’d Like the Winner to Be: Personally, I’d be happy with either Birdman or Boyhood, but I’d also love Selma to win. I have honestly never been as indecisive as I am this year.


Best Director

  • Wes Anderson – The Grand Budapest Hotel
  • Alejandro González Iñárritu – Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)
  • Richard Linklater – Boyhood
  • Bennett Miller – Foxcatcher
  • Morten Tyldum – The Imitation Game

My Prediction: I’ve got to go with Linklater, given his dedication to Boyhood over the years. He is the best choice, if you ask me.

I’d like the winner to be: Richard Linklater.


Best Actor

  • Steve Carell – Foxcatcher as John du Pont
  • Bradley Cooper – American Sniper as Chris Kyle
  • Benedict Cumberbatch – The Imitation Game as Alan Turing
  • Michael Keaton – Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) as Riggan Thomson / Birdman
  • Eddie Redmayne – The Theory of Everything as Stephen Hawking

My Prediction: Eddie Redmayne as Stephen Hawking.

I’d like the winner to be: Steve Carell, whose work in Foxcatcher is simply nothing like he has ever done before. This has got to be the hardest category for me, Redmayne, Cumberbatch and Keaton also deserve this, their performances were incredible.


Best Actress

  • Marion Cotillard – Two Days, One Night as Sandra Bya
  • Felicity Jones – The Theory of Everything as Jane Hawking
  • Julianne Moore – Still Alice as Dr. Alice Howland
  • Rosamund Pike – Gone Girl as Amy Elliott-Dunne
  • Reese Witherspoon – Wild as Cheryl Strayed

My Prediction: Julianne Moore, who has attracted great attention for her role in Still Alice.

I’d like the winner to be: Rosamund Pike, whose work in Gone Girl is simply outstanding.


Best Supporting Actor

  • Robert Duvall – The Judge as Judge Joseph Palmer
  • Ethan Hawke – Boyhood as Mason Evans, Sr.
  • Edward Norton – Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) as Mike Shiner
  • Mark Ruffalo – Foxcatcher as Dave Schultz
  • J. K. Simmons – Whiplash as Terence Fletcher

My Prediction: JK Simmons.

I’d Like the Winner to Be: Simmons, or Norton.


Best Supporting Actress

  • Patricia Arquette – Boyhood as Olivia Evans
  • Laura Dern – Wild as Barbara “Bobbi” Grey
  • Keira Knightley – The Imitation Game as Joan Clarke
  • Emma Stone – Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) as Sam Thomson
  • Meryl Streep – Into the Woods as The Witch

My Prediction: Patricia Arquette

I’d Like the Winner to Be: No argument with the prediction; it has to be Arquette.

  • Boyhood – Richard Linklater

  • Nightcrawler – Dan Gilroy

My Prediction: It has got to be between Birdman, and The Grand Budapest Hotel

Best Animated Feature Film

  • Big Hero 6 
  • The Boxtrolls
  • How to Train Your Dragon 2
  • Song of the Sea
  • The Tale of the Princess Kaguya

My Prediction: Strongly hoping for Big Hero 6,to take the trophy. However, it could be How to Train Your Dragon 2.

I’d Like the Winner to Be: Big Hero 6, no doubt.


Best Foreign Language Film

  • Ida (Poland) in Polish – Pawel Pawlikowski
  • Leviathan (Russia) in Russian – Andrey Zvyagintsev
  • Tangerines (Estonia) in Estonian and Russian – Zaza Urushadze
  • Timbuktu (Mauritania) in French – Abderrahmane Sissako
  • Wild Tales (Argentina) in Spanish – Damián Szifrón

My Prediction: Ida, which is an exceptional film.

My Prediction: Citizenfour, very relevant to our time.

I’d Like the Winner to Be: This is the one category in which I’m not sure about, as I have only seen one of these, Citizenfour. I should really watch more documentaries. It’s just finding the time…
