First it tied the record of the fastest selling R-rated film in history, then it beat it.

If you have been living under a rock over the past few years since its ‘novel’ was published, Fifty Shades of Grey is about a literature student, Anastasia Steele, whose life ‘changes forever’ when she meets the questionably handsome, yet tormented, billionaire Christian Grey.

To start off with, the writing is laughable. This atrocious piece of ‘cinema’ has made it to the one and only position of the worst film I have ever seen. The book glamourizes the ‘BDSM’ culture in a completely unspeakable way, the film however, doesn’t seem to be quite as horrid as the novel. But that does not hold it back from being a ghastly film. Director, Sam Taylor-Johnson claimed, “I don’t think you can judge something without seeing it.” Now that I’ve seen it, I can tell you, I am in the exact position to pass judgement. ‘Fifty Shades of Abuse’ degrades women. If you ask me, the film should not have been made in the first place, let alone the next novel in the series receiving confirmation to be made a film.

The acting was appalling. Jamie Dornan did a terrible job in his performance. Yet another actor who only got the job due to his ‘pretty face’. But you can hardly blame him, having simply nothing to work with. The script was as laughable as the book, how they thought they could make a decent film out of lousy literature is beyond me. To make things worse, I didn’t feel any chemistry whatsoever between the two leads.

Despite my criticism, the scenery, colours and the overall look of the movie was exactly what I had imagined. From Christian’s apartment to the floor plan and furniture. The clothing in the movie for both characters also fitted well to their personalities. Has it really resulted in our generation being so desperate, that this is what gets us ‘turned on’? Come on, girls. We’re better than this.
