They’ve done studies, you know – 60 percent of the time, this film works every time.

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues does its best to reproduce the magic of San Diego’s most eccentric news team. Having lost his job as an anchorman to his wife, resulting in issues with them, Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) is on the streets in a rather tough position. Suddenly, he is given the opportunity to start the first ever 24-hour news broadcast. Initially, he thinks it’s a bad idea, but then he accepts the job, gathers his old news team, and is back doing what God put Ron Burgundy on this earth to do: have salon quality hair and read the news.

Thankfully, it is not one of those films that exposes all of its funniest moments in the advertising alone. Steve Carell (as always) gives an exceptional performance – the dry humour is absolutely impeccable, and Brick will always be my favourite character. Will Ferrell likewise does a brilliant job playing Ron. Anchorman 2 feels a lot like a sketch movie tied together by the loosest of strings, and less cohesive and direct than its predecessor. Though it is still mostly enjoyable for what it is. Aside from the editing, I have no complaints, as I thoroughly enjoyed this film. It’s not often I spend the whole duration of a two hour film crying with laughter at almost every scene. However, it’s not everybody’s cup of tea, in fact, it could possibly offend people, but personally I loved the humour, and the jokes were certainly memorable – Brick: “A black man follows me everywhere when it’s sunny.” Ron: “That’s your shadow.” If this sort of dry humour isn’t your kettle of fish, then Anchorman 2 perhaps isn’t for you.

Ultimately, it takes a special set of actors with a special chemistry to pull off the humour displayed in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. Ferrell, Carell and company prove that they still have what it takes to keep audiences rolling in the aisles, even after nine years since the first instalment. It continues to be very classy indeed.
