Academy Awards 2016 Predictions

And it’s that time of the year again…The nominees for Academy Awards have been released! Leading the race is The Revenant with 12 nominations, closely followed by Mad Max: Fury Road with 10. 2015 has certainly been a noteworthy year for films, Ex Machina, Room and Spotlight have especially been a few favourites of mine. The most questionable and absurd nomination this year is Jennifer Lawrence for ‘Best Actress in a Leading Role’. Joy was not award-worthy in the slightest, nor was her forgettable performance. At this point in time, it has become apparent that she is ‘overrated’, though you may beg to differ.

Who do you think will take the top spot? Let me know by commenting below. As for now, here are my predictions (winners= highlighted in gold/Bold text).header

  1. Nice selections, i would like to see Brie Larson and Alicia Vikander win the actress awards, while i did enjoy the others i believe them to be the best and Vikander should also get praise for the fact she shone in two Oscar contenders not just one easy to play role which i found Carol to be when i found Mara gave a better performance than Blanchett

    • Oh yes, definitely! Vikander, being one of my favourite actresses, should definitely win the award. But this list isn’t particularly my ‘opinions’, more my predictions. I especially feel Vikander should win an award for Ex Machina – she shone throughout! Larson was also great in Room, her performance was incredibly realistic. Thanks for commenting!

  2. I loved Vikander in ex machina, she’s such a phenomenal actress. Hmm, yeah Chivo looks strong for cinematography. I think Brie Larson’s a hot favourite though, personally I want her to win and it looks to be the case with all the Golden Globes and SAG’s etc. I think the hardest two to call are director and best picture. Personally, I see director as a three horse race between miler, inarritu and mckay (although I found his style in The big short quite jarring). Best Picture’s so hard. But I have a feeling the revenant might not win just because Birdman won last year…but who knows. It’s definitely strong, I wouldn’t rule out Spotlight and The Big Short (since it just won the PGA’s) Crazy right? I didn’t think it was that good. Oooo, but the ones I really wanna see as well are the visuals, editing and sounds…I can’t even call it. I fancy the revenant, but star wars and mad max are so good as well!

    • Me too, having just recently seen The Big Short, I wasn’t a fan myself. Either it wasn’t my cup of tea, or I didn’t quite engage with the characters. Don’t get me wrong, Steve Carell was great. But the rest of the cast didn’t hit those high notes to make the film into something ‘special’. Haha, yes, it’s a very hard year to call! That’s very true – it may not be picked due to Birdman, but if it is, then that man is on a roll!! Thanks for commenting, it’s wonderful to hear your opinions! 🙂

      • Love reading your site, sry I haven’t recently, I must have missed them. But your reviews are nice 🙂 Haha same, I loved Carell, but that’s about it. The rest was just decent, and sometimes quite random. I didn’t particularly find Mad max great 😦 But I can see why many people loved it. Inarritu’s one crazy guy, its as if winning it last year wasn’t enough right?!

  3. Nice list! I think Larson will win, she’s been killing it at all the other award shows and Vegas has her as the HEAVY favorite. She and Leo seem to be the only locks this year, everything else is up in the air. Should make for a fun night!
